What is sacrifice bairam?

In sacrifice bairam we muslim people cut animals. However we do not cut any of them for example we do not cut pig, crab, lobster, oyster,turtle etc.
It is enough for us just a smile I do not want to be cut the animals but it does not work; they cut them .
My elders say that we cut animals because of our religious beliefs. And they say that we cut animals and we have to give half of the meet to the poor thatmakes our social relations better.
I think we celebrate sacrifice bairam to be together. Because in each bairam people always smile to each other
